About This Lesson : Introduction to the Computer

This lesson is intended to be a comprehensive introduction to computers in general. It can be used as a curriculum for a training class, material for a small tutoring session, or as a self-led session (if it is printed out).

What You'll Learn

Learners will be introduced to computer terms, learn to identify parts of their computer, be advised on basic computer health practices, and find suggestions for items that increase the utility of a computer. The section ends with links to basic tutorials for how to operate a computer mouse and keyboard. Each section includes a number of flexible suggested exercises.

Requirements

You will need a computer with internet access for this tutorial. Instructors should have read it over and created their own version and/or notes to guide the process. It is very helpful to have example computer parts to show participants. Learners who are not comfortable reading or do not speak English well should seek assistance from a family member, friend or librarian.
