Tutorial Rating System

By Jeff Ginger

In order to help learners get a better idea of what each tutorial includes we developed a rubric rating each lesson in a number of dimensions. If an item is marked as red, then it is a warning, if it is green then is it optimal, if it is blue then it is contingent.

Difficulty/Complexity

The lesson's difficulty with regards to advanced or abstract concepts as well as complicated action routines. The density of reading also impacts this rating.

Degree of Guidance

The amount learners are guided. The more guided a lesson is the less need for an instructor. If lessons are used as curriculum this rating determines how much scripted it can be for the instructor.

Useful Reference

If learners refer back to the guide, how helpful will it be? This rating helps to measure the reference aspect of a given tutorial. Usually more comprehensive and complex but broad tutorials make for good references.

Critical Thinking

The level of critical and creative thinking skills required to complete the tutorial.

Ideas for Instructors

The amount of ideas for exercises, projects, and extended learning offered to learners and instructors.

Length

The amount of time the tutorial will take, estimated.
